When can you use a SCSI RAID Controller with a SATA Motherboard?

I know that you can do this, but I am a bit confused as to when and how. The SCSI card is a single channel, and the mobo is the Supermicro PDSMi+

Can I install Vista 64 on a blank SAS scsi hard drive through a scsi card and…?

I am building a new computer. I have found a sas scsi card that is vista 64 compatible. I have also found a 15k rpm drive that I like.
The instructions for the card say during the os install process vista will automatically install drivers for the card. My question is: Can I install the card in the mobo, connect the hard drive throught it, and expect vista install smoothly?

Or is it something convoluted like installing the card first without the hard drive, or installing a sata drive first to set up the scsi?

Problem Converting Internal SCSI to External?

We had a server at work go kaput. The main drive is SCSI. We obtained an enclosure to convert it to an external drive for the new server which does not have a SCSI card. I’ve connected the ATA and 4-wire power cords. I connected the main power cord to the enclosure and pushed the power button. The enclosure’s fan started, but not the drive. I then tested a 4-wire power cord from the new server on the SCSI drive. Still nothing. Is the drive beyond recovery?

Can someone teach me a little more about SCSI drives?

I got a couple 74 gig SCSI drives from a friend. I wanted to use them for a server, but I have no idea about SCSI drives and connectors. I believe these are the ULTRA3 drives, because of the 80 pin connectors.

How exactly do you connect these to your computer? I was looking on newegg for maybe a SCSI pci card but all I was finding were cards for 50pin and 68pin scsi.

Could someone please help me out and explain this all to me?

What is the correct terminator for this SCSI card?

The adaptec 39320A? It has 2 ports on the back. The ports are female, and appear to have a cartridge looking line down the middle as opposed to a bunch of pinholes. Also, there appears to be 68 copper contacts around the edge of the slot..

There are SCSI ultra this and mega 320 that, I just want the right one. Anyone know what it is?
