I am replacing the motherboard in my sister’s IBM thinkpad T42. The manufacturer used a combination heat transfer and adhesive compound
between the Heat Sink and the Cpu and video chipset. How do I loosen this stuff to prevent damage when I unscrew the heat sink from its chassis mounts? There’s a Fry’s electronics that sells all manner of chemicals but I’m not sure what I can use that won’t damage the ICs.

Will the store where i bought the cpu test it? I don’t have any board for testing this tipe of am3 socket processor and anyhow i read on some forums that a bad cpu may damage a good motherboard. Is it true?

How can i test it ?

I’m planning on building my first pc and I know how to do everything except when it comes to the cpu and the motherboard. I know how to put it on and take it off, etc. but the only thing that I’m not quite sure of is what happens after you put everything together?

My friend told me that you have to do something with the bios, is that true? And what do you have to change on the bios if you do? Thanks you for answering in advance.

I bought a new cpu for my computer that i know works with my motherboard. When i installed it it goes to the boot up menu and freezes. I re-installed the old cpu and it works fine. Why is this happening and how can i fix it. Its an intel pentium dual core. Thanks

When I turn it on, all the system and CPU fans start spinning, and the power / hard drive lights come on, but the screen is blank. I did not hear *beeps* from the motherboard and my video card is still working fine.

I have 4 memory slots on my motherboard. Right now I have two 1gb Corsair memory sticks. I wanna get a new PNY 2gb memory stick. Is that gonna be okay? Will there be a problem?

I installed a new motherboard (that is an older model) and all of the plugs and devices fit together, but it isn’t working. I checked the manual for the computer that uses that model of motherboard and it shows support up to and Intel T7200 CPU, mine is a T7500 CPU. I was wondering if this is a problem, or if generally they are interchangeable.

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 and still has the original motherboard. The CPU Processor Chip is still original (an obsolete model AMD Athlon Chip)

I want to buy THE BEST CPU CHIP on the market that my Compaq Presario 2100 can handle. Can anyone help me out?
