If I had lots of computers and laptops laying around in my house and they’re all on the internet, how can I start a private network with each? I don’t have any extra ethernet cables either. I have the new AT&T internet and a couple spare old modems. Can I use those to start a private network just by switching the ethernet cables?

Our cable Internet connection was set up on my laptop. I then bought a wireless router. I have an HP running Windows VISTA. My roommate has a Dell laptop about four years old running Windows XP. She wants to connect to the Internet. I have a wireless network set up for the router. What does she need to do? She tried going under "Connect to" and no wireless networks showed up.

I would like to hook my external hard drive to my network so my wife and I can save to that drive rather than our laptops. We don’t have a computer hooked to the router. We have the modem, a linksys wireless router and that’s it. What do you suggest I do?

I am deciding between two laptops. I like them both very much but the graphics card vary on both.

1. Dell XPS M1710 with a Nvidia Geforce 7950 GTX
2. Hewlett Packard Pavilion Dv9590 with a Nvidia GeForce 8600M

I know that the 7950 is a much much better card but i am a very keen gamer and i want a card that will please me in the future too. The 8600 has DirectX10 but the 7950 doesn’t.

I really dont know what to go for, on one hand i dont want to be stuck with the 7950 that will play amazing now but nothing in the future due to no DX10 support. I know the 8600 is a good card now, but what will it be like in terms of DX10. If its only ‘good’ (rather than great) for DX9 will it be an average card supporting DX10?

Hi, I have two huge files (ISO files) on a laptop which I need to transfer to another laptop. The files are each over 8GB in size so I can’t use my flash drive or cds (I don’t have any around). Is there a way I can hook up the two laptops with an ethernet cable and transfer the files? What are the actual steps I need to follow?

I have a laptop that doesnt have a cd drive. and i have a laptop that has a cd drive. i also have the reformatting cd. is there a way to reformat my laptop without the cd drive?
how do i network drive the two laptops?

I have a wireless network that uses Dlink router. I have two dekstops one running Vista another XP Home. Also two laptops. When I created the network I guess I made it unsecured by mistake. Now I would like to change it, but not sure exactly how to to do it and what would be the changes I need to be aware off? Does it chnage how I would be accessing the network from diff computers? Also, what type of security should I choose?
