I am looking for a disk defrag faster than windoze built in utility?

Would like to have a portable app (run off flash drive) rather than an install, then uninstall for a single defrag. Do you have a program you would reccommend?

Yes – O & O Defrag – you can get a free trial, but do have to pay for it after 30 days or so. However, it’s very good, offers boot time defrag, a screensaver that defrags your drive and also automatic background processing. There’s a good discussion on this and other tools and download links in the link in my source….

I would recommend Auslogics disk defrag. I use it on my vista system and it works great. It is very fast compared to the windows defragger. As for it being portable, I would assume during the install you could opt to install it to whatever directory your flash drive is at and run it directly from there.

Diskeeper is the best third party program. You can check out the trial version at http://diskeeper.com/

No need to run it off a flash drive, doesn’t help in any way. Just install and use as a normal application. I recommend Diskeeper 2009 Pro. It’s the best defragger I’ve ever used…fast as well as thorough (one without the other is useless)…run it in automatic mode for the best results. http://www.diskeeper.com has free trial versions.

Run a disk cleanup before defrag…it helps make space.
