How does the Microsoft Exchange Server work?
My dad is interested in getting one for his business, he already has a server, but not the exchange software. Could you please help me understand how the exchange server works?

You don’t need to call Microsoft … sheesh.
You’ll spend forever on the phone with them and IF you are LUCKY, you’ll get as much as 1/3 of the answers you need.
Call a local verified Network Consultant. Have them come in and explain everything to your dad, review his current hardware and recommend a solution(s). It’s a lot easier than any of us typing out the explanations.
