How do I know if my motherboard can support types of graphic card?

My motherboard is P4M900M-L and I’m using Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60GHz (2 CPUs) and a 958MB RAM. May I know what graphic card (best) my motherboard can support?

I don’t like ATI cards so these are Nvidia but if u like ATI go for it.

Yeah you could have a really serious unit. They make 4gb sticks of ram for that you could have 8gb of RAM!!!

Your motherboard supports any card with a PCIE x16 interface but your power supply wattage will determine how powerful a card you can use. How many Watts is your power supply?

  • Scott:

that motherboard has a 1.0 PCIe x16 slot……so you can any PCIe x16 video card on that motherboard….even though its a 1.0 slot you can still use a 2.0 PCIe x16 video card….1.0 and 2.0 are backward compatible….

In PCIe 1.x , each lane carries 250 MB/s. PCIe 2.0, released in late 2007, adds a Gen2-signalling mode, doubling the rate to 500 MB/s. PCIe 3.0, currently in development (for release around 2010), will add a Gen3-signalling mode, at 1 GB/s.

that is a good explanation of how the different slots work…and the performance hit or gain is not noticable that you would realize any difference….so your good to go….
