Its a compaq computer, can you please tell me how to defrag it.
I just got it during december and I have not yet defragged it.

1. Go to my "Computer"
2.Then right click "Local Disk C:"
3.Then go down to "properties"
4.Then go to "Tools"
5.Then click "Defragment Now"

Defragging consolidates the data on your hard disk so that is can access files quicker.
Get PerfectDisk or some other defraging program.

Run it and defrag.
What defraging does it move around the bits on your hard drive so that files are continuous and the hard drive doesnt have to skip around to read one file. It also fills in gaps created by deleting files, giving you more continuous free space.
Basically, it makes reading and writing files faster.
Well i have an alien labtop its a little more techincal then your basic computer but just go to the corner you know where start usually is on the desktops and stuff and start typeing disk under search it should pop up diskfragmention just run it form their.
Defragging brings all the scattered files together so it basically increases the speed of your computer do it once a week to keep your computer running amazing

1. Open My Computer.
2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.
3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
4. Click Defragment.
If you have Vista i wouldn’t recommend it .

Windows Vista: same as XP

After that just click any one Disk Drive and click "Defragment"
Defragmenter groups he files of one kind which are just scattered here and there,
thereby giving you some extra space in ur drive.
It can also increase ur computers speed!!
Hi click Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools- Disk Defrgmenter.
Defragmenting the hard drive does two things. Firstly it moves files around on your hard drive to reduce the number of gaps that occur as files are updated or added/deleted during normal use, and secondly it moves individual sectors of data for the same file together so that the files are using consecutive sectors on the drive.
That’s the theory, but in practice the supplied Windows tools are not that efficient to be honest. I personally prefer tools such as Defraggler by Piriform which is freeware and much better. Just try Googling for it on Filehippo.
Finally, always run a Disk Cleanup before run Disk Defragmenter in order to get rid of your unwanted temporary files.

If you are running XP, while using the built in tool, make sure that no other program runs to interrupt its task,otherwise it may hang or restart. You need atleast 15% free space. For this you can uninstall programs that you dont need, burn music, movies pics etc onto DVDs etc, run a diskcleanup(get rid of temp files, recycle bin files, older restore points) and you should be able to get some space free. Run a diskcleanup and chkdsk if needed.Go to Start>Accessories>Systemtools>Diskdefrag…
Analyze the drive do as the report suggests. Just ensure there is no power cut during the process.
If you are running Windows Vista, its designed to defrag on its own and doesnt show a graphic or fragmentation visuals.
However, to save yourself time and the frustration that sometimes arises from defrags that hang or restart, check out better a better defrag program like Diskeeper, which is automatic and once installed do the job in the background without needing any manual intervention. You can go about your normal PC work without any hassles even when it works. It defrags even if you have less than 15% free space and is much faster.
Defragging keeps files organized making them easier to access for the drive, which leads to faster opening of programs, files etc and prevents slowdowns over time.
